Grout gets dirty—it just does.
Especially on a bathroom floor that sees regular use.
In this video, we tested three different levels of grout cleaning on a floor that was installed back in late 2022 using power grout and has had normal wear and tear.
Same floor. Same conditions. Different methods.
Here’s what we found.
The 3 Levels of Grout Cleaning We Tested
We kept it simple and realistic.
1. Water Only
This is what most people do.
- Mop
- Scrub with water
- Maybe a brush
And honestly—it helps.
You can remove surface dirt, but that’s about it.
Grout is porous, so once dirt gets in, water alone isn’t pulling it out.
2. FILA Clean All
This is definitely a step up!
A dedicated cleaner designed for tile and grout maintenance.
What it does:
- Breaks down surface grime
- Safe for tile and grout
- Easy to use as part of regular cleaning
Products like this are designed to clean grout without damaging it or the tile surface, especially when used correctly with scrubbing and rinsing
And the result?
Better than water—but still not a full reset.
3. FILA Grout Renew
This is where things changed.
This is more of a deep cleaner—meant to go after the stuff that’s built up over time.
What it does:
- Targets grease, dirt, and embedded grime
- Works deeper into the grout
- Restores the original look much more effectively
Deep cleaners like this are specifically made to remove stubborn buildup that regular cleaning can’t touch
And it showed.
The Process We Used (This Matters)
No matter which product we used, the process stayed the same.
This is key.
1. Dwell
Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes.
This gives it time to break down the dirt.
2. Agitate
Scrub the grout lines with a brush or pad.
3. Rinse
Remove the cleaner and loosened dirt with clean water.
4. Buff Dry
Dry the surface so you’re not leaving residue behind.
This process is just as important as the product you use.
The Results (Simple Breakdown)
After running all three methods side by side:
Water – on this floor it worked surprisingly well!
Clean All – very similar results to water.
Grout Renew – clear winner! The most drastic improvement.
Water and Clean All ended up pretty close—both good for maintenance.
But Grout Renew was the only one that really brought the grout back.
Why Grout Gets So Dirty in the First Place
This is the part most people don’t think about.
Grout is basically a cement-based material, which means:
- It’s porous
- It absorbs dirt, soap, and moisture
- It holds onto that over time
That’s why even when tile looks clean, the grout still looks dark.
It’s not surface-level anymore—it’s embedded.
In Conclusion…
If you’re just maintaining your floors:
- Water or a light grout cleaning solution works fine.
If your grout already looks dirty:
- You need something stronger
That’s the difference.
- Light cleaning ? maintenance
- Deep cleaning ? restoration
And in this case, Grout Renew was the only one that actually restored the look of the grout.
What Do You Use?
Are you just sticking with water…
or using a dedicated cleaner?
